I’m going to try to start blogging again. Maybe I can reboot this one.

Standalone Pandora Clients

21 12 2010

There are many Pandora.com clients out there. Most act as a wrapper for the flash client, embedding it in a simple window with a few extra features. This can be quite taxing on your CPU and RAM usage. Fortunately, there are a few clients out there that are completely standalone. Read the rest of this entry »

Notifications for Finch

15 12 2010

Finch is the cli alternative to Pidgin. I wrote a small Python script in order to display notifications on certain events (buddy signed on or new message). It connects through DBus and uses your desktop environment’s notification system. It needs the python-notify, dbus-python, and pygobject libraries in order to run–and, of course, linux. It requires Python 2 as most of the libraries used haven’t been ported to Python 3. It was originally written for Awesome, but it should work fine on XFCE, Gnome, and KDE.

You can get it from here:

UPDATE:

Though I doubt there’s a huge audience for this script, the dropbox link no longer works. But you can get it from Github.

Experiments in Haircare

Social Suicide

30 08 2010

Today I deleted my Facebook account (Well, it will be deleted within 14 days). There was a wonderful feeling of liberation! Afterwards, I posted about it on my Twitter…then wrote an article about it on my WordPress blog.

Hey…I’m making progress.

A Test

18 06 2010

A program came out today that allows Google users to work with some of the Google services. If you haven’t heard about it, it’s called GoogleCL...but this is not what this post is about.

It got me interested in different ways to post to WordPress and Blogger. The one I’m currently using is called ‘gnome-blog’. Let’s see if it works.

Mp3 Player Woes

4 03 2010

I hate my iPod. Let me just throw that out there. Sure, I can see my reflection in it and it holds my mp3s and what-not…but it still sucks. I also have a Zune…somewhere. I like it more than my iPod but it still needs work. I also had a cheap RCA mp3 player about the size of a thumb drive. It was a tad bit better than the Zune, but still not quite what I was looking for. What am I looking for exactly when I look at mp3 players, you may ask? Read the rest of this entry »
